Counseling Services

The Pre-Law Program, coupled with the School of Arts & Sciences’ minor in law and the liberal arts, provides students with many opportunities for self-exploration prior to applying to and deciding on a law school. The law and the liberal arts minor is directed by Geoff Goddu, while pre-law advising is directed by Mark McGarvie.

Mark McGarvie is an experienced employment and labor relations attorney and law professor, and he begins advising students in conjunction with their major advisor as soon as they express interest in attending law school. He can frequently recommend courses that will develop necessary competencies for success in law school as well as in law practice.

As students approach the LSAT and the application process, the pre-law program is a great resource for everything from test-taking tips to personal statements to choosing the right program.

For students who think they want to go to law school, but aren’t sure what kinds of careers they would enjoy with a law degree, the pre-law program can open up doors they might never have discovered otherwise. All students who are considering an education and career in the law and wish to receive support services from the Pre-Law Program should register online.
